Bodies of Bangladesh Army peacekeepers martyred in terrorist drone attack on UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan return home

The bodies of 6 peacekeepers who were martyred in the barbaric terrorist drone attack on a base of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Abyei area of ​​Sudan on Saturday (13 December 2025) returned home today (20 December 2025) on an Emirates Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. Bangladesh Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim, BP, SBP, OSP, BAM, ndc, psc received the bodies of the peacekeepers at the airport.

Also present during the reception of the bodies were the Chairman, Civil Aviation Authority; Acting UN Resident Representative in Bangladesh; Representative of the Force Commander of the UN Mission in Abyei, UNISFA, Chief Community Liaison Officer; DG (UN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Director, Overseas Operations Directorate, Army Headquarters; senior military and civilian officials and media persons were present. Everyone stood for a minute of silence while receiving the bodies and all military personnel paid their respects and saluted the martyrs.

Tomorrow, on 21 December 2025, after the Namaz-e-Janaza ceremony at the Central Mosque in Dhaka Cantonment, the bodies will be sent to their respective addresses by helicopter and buried with due military honors. It is to be noted that in the said terrorist drone attack, 6 peacekeepers were martyred and 9 peacekeepers were injured, 8 of whom are undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital (Level-3 Hospital) in the capital of Kenya, Nairobi. All of them are currently out of danger.
