Meeting held with Japan on the operation and maintenance of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal Airport

An important meeting was held in Dhaka on the operation and maintenance of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. This high-level meeting of the government with the Japanese delegation was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital on Thursday (March 12, 2026).

In the meeting, the Japanese delegation presented a proposal regarding the operation and maintenance of the third terminal and discussed it in detail. The issues of the airport’s embarkation fee, upfront fee and revenue share were given special importance in the discussion.

At the meeting, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita said that the government is working to inaugurate the third terminal in a short time by ensuring maximum convenience for the passengers.

At the time, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat urged Japan to quickly resubmit a revised proposal. In addition, there was discussion about organizing another meeting on this issue at the end of next March.

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Nasreen Jahan, and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal Md. Mustafa Mahmud Siddique and other senior officials were present on behalf of Bangladesh.

The Japanese delegation included Takahashi Naoki, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, and Rieko Nakayama, Assistant Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, and other officials.
