The 2025 graduation convocation ceremony was held at Rajshahi University on Thursday (17 December 2025). In his address, the chief guest, Education Advisor Professor Dr. C. R. Abrar, highlighted not only the success of the students but also the great responsibility associated with their education. In addition, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Dr. S. M. A. Faiz was present as the convocation speaker.

This 12th convocation ceremony was attended by distinguished members of the Syndicate and Academic Council, teachers, proud parents and graduating students. The convocation ceremony highlighted the academic excellence of Rajshahi University as well as the importance of the graduates’ civic responsibility and contribution to society.

The chief guest, Dr. C. R. Abrar told them, “A university degree is not just for getting a job, it is a responsibility to contribute to society. The true value of your education will be measured not only in professional success, but also in your contribution to society.”

He cited the examples of two important figures in the history of Rajshahi University – Professor Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, who dedicated his life to justice in the 1969 student movement, and Badruddin Umar, who worked tirelessly for social change. Both of them showed that education is not only for personal development, but also for contributing to the welfare of society.

The chief guest highlighted the rapidly changing world of today, where technology, misinformation and social divisions are reshaping society. At this time, there is a great need for skilled professionals, but also for correct, ethical and responsible citizens, who understand the impact of their actions on society. He said, “Bangladesh needs graduates who will not only excel in their professional fields, but who will also question the impact of their success on society. We need people who will stand up against corruption, who will strengthen institutions, who will lead with integrity.”

In keeping with the tradition of Rajshahi University, where critical thinking and civic responsibility are valued, the chief guest told the graduates, “Your success should not be measured solely by financial gain or professional status, but by your contributions.” He warned, “If educated citizens are restricted in their personal lives, society can become a victim of injustice and tyranny.” He added that this role of universities is pioneering, which is helpful in preventing such situations.

He also respectfully recalled the contributions of the students’ guardians, teachers and families. “The collaboration between family, university and society does not end here. It will continue, as the graduates will now embark on a new path with their education,” the chief guest said.

The chief guest concluded by saying, “You are not just professionals, you are now responsible citizens. You are capable of bringing positive change to society.” He told the graduates, “Use your education not just to build a career, but to build a just and humane society. Follow the example of those who came before you, and remember, knowledge is power, and that power should be used with integrity.”

Rajshahi University’s Convocation 2025 is not the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a new era for Bangladesh, where a new generation of graduates will establish just and humane values in society through leadership.
