Bangladesh-China Friendship Student Hall being built at Dhaka University with financial assistance from China

The construction project of a new Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall for Dhaka University female students is starting soon with financial assistance from China. The estimated cost is Tk 244 crore.

A Chinese expert team visited the Jagannath Hall area on Monday (December 15, 2025). During the inspection, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, DUCSU VP Sadiq Kayem and expert members of the Chinese Feasibility Study team were present.

Earlier, the expert team led by Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen met the Vice Chancellor in a view-exchange meeting. The university’s Accounts Director, Acting Director of Planning and Development Office, Director of Confucius Institute and other relevant officials were present at the meeting.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan thanked the Chinese government for its sincere cooperation and said, “We have been trying for the last 13-14 months to implement the Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall construction project. We hope that the construction work will start in the next 1-2 months. In the future, some more halls will be built, which will play an important role in resolving the housing crisis of students.”

Once built, this hall will provide housing facilities to 1,500 female students.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said, “Last year, the Vice-Chancellor informed me about the housing crisis of university students. Since then, we have started working. China’s cooperation in the field of housing, education and research of Bangladeshi students will continue.”
