The Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar has announced the inauguration of the e-passport program on 16 December 2025. The chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the e-passport program was Dr. Md. Monowar Hossain, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar, and the special guest was Lt. Col. Md. Shams Akhtar, PSC, Engineers, Deputy Project Director of the e-passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, and Israt Jahan, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. In addition, officials involved in the passport program, embassy officials and employees, and Bangladeshi citizens living in Myanmar were present.

In the inauguration ceremony, Lt. Col. Md. Shams Akhtar, PSC, Engineers, Deputy Project Director of the e-passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, gave a brief speech on the e-passport project in his speech. He emphasized on the technology of e-passport and its proper use.

In his speech as the chief guest, the Honorable Ambassador respectfully remembered all the brave freedom fighters of the great Liberation War and paid deep respect to the martyrs of the July-August 2024 student uprising. He thanked the Department of Passport and Immigration for its active role in providing e-passport services to the expatriates under the guidance of the Honorable Chief Advisor. He said that the launch of e-passport has opened a new horizon for providing modern, safe and effective services to expatriate Bangladeshis and made immigration and passport-related processes easier and safer for expatriate Bangladeshis. He expressed his thanks and gratitude for the sincere cooperation of all the ministries/departments concerned in implementing the e-passport program at the Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon.
The members of the Bangladeshi community expressed their excitement at receiving the e-passport service in their speeches and at the same time they expressed their sincere gratitude to the Bangladesh Government and the Bangladesh Embassy.
Thereafter, the Chief Guest and the guests declared the inauguration of the e-passport program at the Bangladesh Embassy, Yangon, Myanmar and distributed e-passport delivery slips among the Bangladeshi expatriates. Later, the Chief Guest and other guests inspected the e-passport system installed at the Embassy.
