Desk Report:
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that Bangladesh has no chance of moving towards LDC graduation in the current context. If the current government can overcome the economic situation inherited from the previous government, then LDC will be considered.
The minister said these things while briefing journalists at a program titled ‘National Multistakeholder Consultation on Bangladesh’s Graduation Readiness Assessment’ at the NEC Conference Room in Agargaon, Dhaka on Sunday (April 5, 2026).
The minister said that the government is trying to overcome the instability of the Bangladesh economy. The impact of the war in the Middle East has affected not only Bangladesh but the whole world. Due to the outbreak of war in the Middle East, the government is importing fuel at high prices to ensure energy security.
Amir Khasru said that in addition to the country’s economic instability, there are major problems in managing debt repayments. In the future, we will have to think about the financing of the country by keeping the cost of financing in mind.
The minister further said, by implementing our election manifesto, through the capacity building of the country, we will determine when we will be able to move towards LDC graduation. We are trying to implement the promises we made to the people through the election manifesto on time. We have implemented some work including the distribution of family cards. When our capacity is built through the implementation of all these activities, we will move towards LDC graduation.
