Online Desk:
A second clash has taken place between police and Inquilab Manch leaders and activists in Shahbagh in the capital. To control the situation, the police fired tear gas and sound grenades to disperse the protesters. At least 40 to 50 people, including independent candidate for Dhaka-18 constituency Mohiuddin Roni, were injured in the incident.
The clash began on Friday (February 6) at around 7:50 pm when the leaders and activists of Inquilab Manch, who were protesting at Shahbagh intersection, were tried to be removed.
After the first clash around 4:30 pm, the official Facebook page of Inquilab Manch reported that their member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber was shot. In addition, it was claimed that DUCSU leaders Fatima Tasnim Juma and Shanta Akhtar were subjected to police torture. The post urged the activists to focus on the treatment of the injured instead of holding large gatherings for the time being. However, they also said that they would return to the streets after treating the injured.
Earlier, after Friday prayers, the workers of the Inquilab Mancha started a march from Shahbagh towards the residence of the chief advisor, Jamuna. When they tried to move forward by breaking the police barricade at the Intercontinental intersection, the police dispersed them using water cannons and tear gas. The entire Shahbagh area turned into a battlefield in this series of clashes during the day.
