President Md. Sahabuddin has issued the following message on the occasion of the ‘Great Independence and National Day’ tomorrow:
“On the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day, I extend my sincere greetings and warm congratulations to all Bangladeshis living in the country and abroad.
Freedom is our greatest achievement as a nation. On this day, I remember with reverence and gratitude the brave martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the great liberation war, in exchange for whose supreme sacrifice we got independence. I remember with humble respect all the brave freedom fighters, oppressed mothers and sisters, national leaders of the liberation war, organizers and people from all walks of life – who made outstanding and significant contributions to the liberation war.
The outstanding sacrifice of the brave freedom fighters has given us a non-discriminatory, just and democratic modern society. It gives us the courage to move forward in a strong position on the path of building Bangladesh. The goal of independence was to establish political and economic independence, an exploitation-free society and human dignity, and to consolidate the empowerment of people at all levels. We must fulfill the unfulfilled dreams of independence by ensuring equality, good governance, transparency and accountability in all aspects of the state and society. It is our sacred duty to build a safe, happy and prosperous humane Bangladesh for the new generation.
The adverse effects of long-standing misrule, global economic and undesirable energy situations are having on the country and the world. The government is moving forward on the path of establishing a self-reliant, dynamic and just Bangladesh by dealing with the situation with utmost sincerity and efficiency. At this time, strong national unity, compassion and patriotism are very important.
I urge the countrymen, regardless of party, opinion or path, to work together to build a just, self-reliant, safe and working Bangladesh for the present and future generations.
I wish the success of all the programs undertaken on the occasion of the great independence and national day.”
