National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has raised questions about the promise of providing various cards for the benefit of the people if it comes to power.
He raised the question while addressing an election rally of the 10-party unity alliance at the Adarsh High School grounds in Mirpur-10 in the capital on Thursday (January 22) afternoon.
Nahid Islam said, “We are hearing that various cards will be provided. Family cards will be provided, farmer cards will be provided. We want the cards to be provided, so that the people can benefit. But will these cards reach the people? Won’t a bribe of 1,000 taka be required to get a card worth 2,000 taka? If we cannot eradicate bribery and extortion, will these benefits reach the people?”
Calling for the victory of candidates of the alliance including Jamaat-NCP, supported by the 10-party electoral alliance, in the upcoming February 12 elections, he said, “This election is not just an election to change the government, but an election to change the country. This election is not an election to change power, but an election to change the power structure. And many parties forget that there is also a referendum with the election. But we do not forget, and the people will not forget either. Insha Allah, we will unite against discrimination, against corruption, and in favor of justice to build a new Bangladesh.”
