The police have stopped a march towards Jamuna with a memorandum demanding a referendum and the implementation of the July National Charter before the national elections, which was set off by the police at Matsya Bhaban intersection in the capital. However, the top leaders of the parties are going to the office of the Chief Advisor with the memorandum.

A large number of leaders and activists started the march from Paltan intersection to the Press Club at 12:15 pm on Thursday (November 6). They raised slogans for various demands, including a referendum in November. After a brief rally in Paltan, they set off towards the residence of the Chief Advisor on Jamuna.

The delegation includes Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Khelafat Majlis Nayeb-e-Amir Ahmad Ali Qasemi and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPAR) Vice President Rashed Pradhan.

Their five-point demands are – issuing an order to implement the July National Charter and holding a referendum on that order by November; introducing PR (proportional representation) system in both houses or the upper house in the next national election; ensuring a level playing field for free, fair and acceptable elections; making all the atrocities, genocide and corruption of the previous fascist government visible for trial; and banning the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14 parties.

The eight Islamic parties are – Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesh Nejame Islam Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) and Bangladesh Development Party.
