A canal re-excavation program has been inaugurated under the ‘Employment Program (EGPP)’ project in Kaliakoir Upazila of Gazipur to create employment for the extremely poor.
The inauguration ceremony organized on this occasion on Saturday (April 18, 2026) was presided over by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan. Honorable Member of Parliament for Gazipur-01 constituency Mr. Md. Mojibur Rahman was present as the chief guest.
The canal re-excavation work from Ratanpur Rail Bridge to Surichala, from Maksbil to Turag River and from Gowalia River to Shimuliapara was formally inaugurated at the ceremony. On the one hand, this project will relieve waterlogging and normalize water flow, and on the other hand, it will create employment opportunities for the local extremely poor people.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and LA) Mr. Md. Sohel Rana, Kaliakair Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr. Md. AHM Fakhrul Hossain, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mr. Md. Fahim Shahriar and District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mr. Md. Awlad Hossain were present as special guests at the event.
The speakers at the inaugural event said that such developmental activities will play an important role in improving the quality of life of the poor people along with developing rural infrastructure.
