A clash between customers and police took place in front of the Islami Bank Tower in Motijheel, capital Dhaka. Several customers were injured in the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that on Monday (June 1, 2026), customers gathered in front of the bank’s head office with festoons and banners under the banner of ‘Islami Bank Customers Forum’ at around 9:30 am. They started shouting various slogans demanding the resignation of the new chairman. At one stage, tension arose between both sides when the police moved in to remove the protesters.
The protesters claim that the newly appointed chairman Md. Khurshid Alam is a close person of the controversial S Alam Group. With his appointment, ordinary depositors fear irregularities and looting in the bank again. Ordinary customers and conscious citizens organized a protest program against this on Monday. Their main fear is that the appointment of the bank’s new chairman may cause a repeat of the major financial irregularities and extreme controversies that have arisen in the past.
The incident has caused panic in the Dilkush area. There is panic among office-goers. Several people have been injured due to the police firing water cannons and the chase and counter-chase.
