The 3-day long 7th Sabangi Fair has begun in Rangamati with products handmade by hill women. ‘Sabangi’ is a Chakma word. Its Bengali meaning is ‘a companion working under a shadow’.
On Thursday (November 6) afternoon, the fair was inaugurated by Sabangi Women Entrepreneurs Association’s chief patron and Chakma Circle Chief Barrister Debashish Roy by lighting the Mangal Pradeep at the ground of the Sabarang Restaurant.

27 stalls were set up at this fair on the initiative of Sabangi Women Entrepreneurs Association. Two members were awarded honorary mementos as the best entrepreneurs. Later, the guests visited the exhibition fair stalls.
Women entrepreneur Renesa Chakma said, “We should take forward our family, society, nation and country along with ourselves.” The journey and struggle of Sabangi is based on the belief that women can play a direct role in the economy. One of the goals is to bring economic prosperity to women.
It was seen during the fair that women entrepreneurs from the hills have organized exhibitions and sales of bamboo and rattan aesthetic products, handmade natural beauty products, processed foods from agricultural products, traditional hill clothing, waist-length textiles, and traditional foods of the hill people.
The chief guest at the Sabangi fair was the chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council, agriculturist Kajal Talukder. Also present at the time were educationist Nirupa Dewan, member of the Rangamati Hill District Council Pratul Dewan, Assistant General Manager of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation Md. Ismail Hossain, former fisheries officer Indulal Chakma and others.
