Denmark stresses importance of increasing cooperation with Bangladesh in trade, climate and renewable energy

Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) afternoon.

During the meeting, the Ambassador sincerely congratulated the State Minister on assuming office and expressed hope that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Denmark will further strengthen during the tenure of the current government.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs gratefully mentioned Denmark’s long-standing development cooperation with Bangladesh. The discussions discussed the possibilities of increasing cooperation in various areas including trade and investment expansion, climate action, renewable energy, development cooperation, skill development, manpower export and migration.

The State Minister also sought support for the launch of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with the European Union and Bangladesh’s candidacy for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (2026–2027).

He said that a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis is to ensure their safe, voluntary, speedy and dignified repatriation to Myanmar.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the continuous progress of existing bilateral relations and pledged to further strengthen mutual cooperation in the future.
