A special coordination meeting has been held to ensure fast, smooth and uninterrupted passage of vehicles at the toll plazas of Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Jamuna Bridge and Muktarpur Bridge on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha 2026. In this meeting held at the conference room of the Bridges Division on Sunday (March 15, 2026), it was decided to further strengthen and accelerate the toll collection activities through the use of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) lanes. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridges Authority. Senior officials of the Bridge Division and Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Chairman of BRTA (additional responsibility), leaders of the Transport Association, representatives of transport owners and representatives of various Mobile Financial Services (MFS) were present in the meeting. In addition, officials of the site offices of the concerned bridges also participated in the meeting and presented the field-level preparations.
In the chairman’s speech, the Secretary of the Bridge Division said that the Honorable Prime Minister has kindly given instructions to take necessary measures to modernize the communication system across the country. To implement the goal of the Honorable Prime Minister, the Honorable Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and the Honorable State Minister are working tirelessly and are giving us necessary directions. We are committed to implementing the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system of various bridges of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority in order to fulfill their coordinated instructions and public expectations.
The Chairman (Additional Responsibilities) of BRTA mentioned in the meeting that they have assured maximum cooperation in the implementation of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system. In addition, the leaders of the Transport Association, representatives of transport owners and representatives of various Mobile Financial Services (MFS) promised to cooperate from their side in the meeting.
To ensure smooth travel of people heading home on Eid, to ensure maximum use of ETC lanes at each toll plaza and so that drivers can cross the bridge quickly after paying toll without any interruption, the ETC lanes will be kept 100% effective. In collaboration with BRTA and Transport Owners Association, it was decided to set up integrated service provision booths at bus stands for quick installation and registration of RFID tags in all commercial and private vehicles. It has been decided to ensure instant recharge facility through mobile financial services so that passengers can recharge their toll accounts easily.
The Secretary, Bridge Division, said, “Making the journey of people heading home comfortable on the holy Eid is one of our top priorities. We are determined to reduce long traffic jams at toll plazas through the use of modern technology, namely ETC. All the concerned parties must work together to ensure service to the people. As a result of this technology-based step, traffic jam-free and comfortable journey will be ensured on the Padma, Jamuna and Muktarpur bridges on Eid.”
