UN Under-Secretary-General and Senior Representative of the UN-OHRLLS Rabab Fatima met Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.
The meeting was held at the Planning Commission in Agargaon on Sunday (April 5, 2026).
The meeting discussed in detail the postponement of Bangladesh’s LDC (Least Developed Country) graduation deadline, addressing future challenges, and ensuring sustainable development.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that Bangladesh wants to complete LDC graduation through a planned and step-by-step transition so that the country’s economy, trade, and industry do not face any risks. He also mentioned that continuous support from development partners is very important in this regard.
UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima praised Bangladesh’s development progress. He said the UN will continue to provide necessary assistance to Bangladesh to delay LDC graduation and ensure sustainable and inclusive development.
Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman and Secretary of the Economic Relations Division Md. Shahriar Quader Siddiqui along with senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
