Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam, MP, paid a surprise visit to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday (April 5, 2026) to supervise the overall activities.
During the visit, the Honorable Minister observed the activities of the airport’s cargo terminal on the spot and instructed the concerned officials and employees to ensure the unloading of goods quickly and hassle-free by following the correct rules. He said that under the new democratic government, cargo transportation activities will be completely hassle-free and the ‘zero tolerance’ policy against any kind of corruption will be strictly implemented.
Later, the Minister visited the hangar complex of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and inquired in detail about the current status of the technical fault of BG 202 flight (Boeing 787-9). He directed the concerned engineers and officials to quickly complete the central hydraulic system maintenance activities and make the aircraft ready for flight again. During this time, he inspected the cabin and cockpit of the aircraft and observed the functionality of various equipment and panels.
During the inspection, Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddique, Chairman of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA), along with senior officials of the BCAA and Biman Bangladesh Airlines, were present.
It is to be noted that the aircraft was grounded at Osmani International Airport, Sylhet due to a technical fault in the isolator of the central hydraulic system. Later, the necessary maintenance activities are underway to make the aircraft operational.
