Desk Report:

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has stepped up its overall activities, including increasing operational and intelligence activities, across the country, including border areas, to keep the supply system operational, prevent the activities of dishonest hoarders, black marketers and smugglers, and above all, to prevent the abnormal increase in the price of edible oil.

On Friday (April 10, 2026), a joint team of BGB’s Narayanganj Battalion (62 BGB) and RAB conducted a raid on the warehouse of two individuals named Raju and Khorshed at Tarabo Kazipara intersection under Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj district. During the raid, a total of nine barrels containing about 2,000 liters of open soybean oil were found illegally stored.

The operation found clear evidence of illegally storing, bottling and marketing unopened soybean oil from local markets. Since such fraudulent activities pose a serious risk to public health and consumer rights, necessary legal action against them, including sealing the warehouses, is in the process of being taken.

It is worth noting that the BGB has seized 5,425 liters of edible oil in just three months of the current year 2026. This success was achieved in operations conducted in various districts including Joypurhat, Satkhira, Jessore, Feni, Cox’s Bazar and Narayanganj.

In addition, the BGB has demonstrated significant capacity in curbing illegal trade along the border by seizing 13,177 liters in 2024 and 30,092 liters in 2025—a total of 43,269 liters of edible oil.

In the current context, the BGB is on the highest alert in the border areas to prevent illegal storage and smuggling of edible oil. In order to effectively prevent smuggling of edible oil, the BGB has increased regular and special patrols in the border areas and is conducting planned operations by collecting reliable intelligence information about the identified smugglers and the routes used for smuggling.

In addition, search activities are being intensified in suspicious vehicles, boats and border warehouses to seize illegal storage. To make this operation more effective, task force operations are being conducted in coordination with the local administration, Bangladesh Army, RAB, Police and Customs Department, which are playing a helpful role in closely monitoring the market management and supply situation.

If necessary, joint operations are being conducted with other law enforcement agencies beyond eight kilometers of the border. At the same time, awareness is being raised about the ill effects of smuggling of edible oil by involving public representatives and local people in the border areas and everyone is being urged to refrain from such illegal activities.
