Sri Lanka-based Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC’s Bangladesh Operations has inaugurated a new sub-branch and offshore banking unit (OBU) at the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ).
The sub-branch and offshore banking unit were officially inaugurated at a function held at the new office on Tuesday (12 May 2026). This is being considered as an important step in the bank’s expansion activities and global trade facilitation.
The new sub-branch and OBU were inaugurated by the bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nazith Miwanage and Dhaka EPZ Executive Director Md. Shariful Islam. The bank’s Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer Hailey Algewatte and Deputy CEO and Head of Corporate Banking Mahmud Hossain and senior officials were also present at the event.
Representatives of various corporate organizations, local business leaders, DEPZ officials and bank officials participated in the inauguration ceremony.
The new sub-branch and offshore banking unit have been strategically established to provide more effective banking facilities to the industrial and commercial sectors of the Dhaka Export Processing Zone. Specialized offshore banking services, modern general banking facilities and trade finance services suitable for export-oriented industrial enterprises will be provided here for customers.
According to the bank authorities, this new unit will play a supportive role in further strengthening the country’s export-oriented industrial sector and will contribute to the economic growth of Bangladesh through improved financial services.
