Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has emphasized capacity building to keep pace with the global trading system and properly fulfill the notification obligations of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
He said this while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of a four-day training program titled ‘National Training on WTO Notification Requirements’ organized at the Bidyut Bhaban in the capital today, Monday (April 27, 2026).
The Commerce Minister said that notification is an essential element to comply with WTO rules, stay updated and keep pace with global developments. He mentioned that notification is an important part of the WTO toolbox. Only if we can maintain it properly, we will be able to participate more effectively in the international trading system.
He further said that this is a timely initiative and such training programs will play an important role in strengthening coordination among officials of various ministries as well as enhancing knowledge and skills related to international trade. Expressing interest in knowing what the participants learned at the end of the workshop, he said that the main success of this training will be the application of the acquired knowledge in practical work.
The Minister thanked the concerned officials of the Ministry of Commerce and said that taking such initiatives in coordination with the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC) of the WTO will bring positive results for the country. He expressed the hope that such educational training will be organized regularly in the future so that the concerned can be prepared to fulfill their responsibilities related to the WTO.
He expressed the hope that the institution that the world community has collectively built for more than three decades will move forward stronger. The WTO will soon resume its activities with renewed vigor after overcoming the current stagnation.
Khadija Nazneen, Additional Secretary, WTO Division, Ministry of Commerce, delivered the welcome speech. Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Secretary (Routine Responsibilities), Ministry of Commerce, delivered the special guest speech. In addition, Head of Counselor for Asia and Pacific, WTO, ITTC Osman Ali Khilji, and Head of Counselor for Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Caucasus, WTO, Dr. Kenza Lee Mentek, delivered speeches.
A total of 50 officials from various ministries are participating in the four-day training. The training will be conducted in multiple sessions on various important issues related to WTO.
