Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Italy. He said that Italy is one of the most important development partners of Bangladesh among the European Union countries.

He said these things during a meeting with Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro at his office at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).

The Home Minister said that Bangladeshis living in Italy are playing an important role in the country’s economic development by sending remittances. For this reason, Bangladesh attaches special importance to relations with Italy. He said that there is a goal to further expand this cooperation in the future.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the Ambassador and the Ambassador congratulated the Minister on assuming the new responsibility. At the time, the Ambassador said that Italy is interested in further expanding Bangladesh-Italy relations.

He also said that the meeting of the Joint Working Group on Safe Migration, Bilateral Labor Market and Sending Skilled Workers was held in Bangladesh in July last year. The next meeting will be held in Italy.

During the meeting, the ambassador handed over a letter of congratulations from the Italian Home Minister to the minister and invited him to visit Italy. In response, the minister expressed his interest in visiting Italy at a convenient time.
