We are planning to set up health centers to ensure the safety of tourists on the beach: Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism

A discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on Thursday (May 14, 2026) at 11 am with the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB), the organization operating the Sea-Safe Lifeguard Service in Cox’s Bazar, and the donor organization Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Speaking at the event, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam, MP, said that it is very important to amend the policy to ensure the safety of tourists. Moreover, initiatives should be taken to set up health centers to ensure the safety of tourists on the beach of Cox’s Bazar and Patuakhali. To this end, the Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners of Cox’s Bazar and Patuakhali to send a proposal to the ministry as soon as possible.

State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP said that initiatives will be taken to increase the number of tourist police members engaged in the safety of tourists. At the same time, the number of personnel providing lifeguard services will also have to be increased. CSR funds will be collected for the time being in the interest of continuing to provide lifeguard services. He also said that permanent infrastructure will be built keeping in mind the future.

Among others, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Fahmida Akhtar, NDC, Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, and senior officials of the ministry, CIPRB and RNLI were present at the event.

It is worth noting that the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) has been operating lifeguard services at Cox’s Bazar beach since 2012 with the financial support of the UK-based donor organization Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
