Clashes have been taking place between Dhaka University Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir in Shahbagh since Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred after Abdullah Al Mahmud, a member of the Chhatra Shibir panel, posted a picture created using AI from his Facebook ID in the DUCSU elections.
At least eight people were injured in the chase and counter-chase. There have been reports of panic spreading inside the Shahbagh police station due to clashes between both sides.
According to the details of the incident, former DUCSU candidates Abdullah Al Mahmud and Sayeduzzaman Alvi had recently gone to the police station to file a case against the spread of objectionable posts about Zaima Rahman, daughter of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, on social media. Zubair and Mosaddek were present there to accompany them.
Eyewitnesses said that Chhatra Dal leaders and activists stationed at the police station became agitated upon seeing the DUCSU leaders who had come to file a case and launched an ambush on them. It is learnt that some journalists who were carrying out their professional duties were also attacked during this time.
