In the month of victory, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain expressed deep sorrow over the demise of one of the main heroes of the great Liberation War, Mr. AK Khandaker, Bir Uttam.

He said that Mr. Khandaker’s extraordinary leadership, courage and strategic role as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Liberation Army in the Great Liberation War made a unique contribution to the achievement of Bangladesh’s independence. He gave great leadership as the first chief in the reconstruction of the Bangladesh Air Force after independence.

His presence as a representative of the Liberation Army at the historic moment of the surrender of the Pakistani army at the Race Course Ground in Dhaka on December 16, 1971 will be remembered as a glorious chapter in the history of the nation.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain further mentioned, “Mr. AK Khandaker, Bir Uttam was not only a valiant freedom fighter and military officer, he was a wise patriot and a history-conscious documentarian. He successfully served as Bangladesh’s ambassador to various countries for a long time.”

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family and relatives.
