Bangladesh emphasized on early repatriation of Rohingyas

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, MP, discussed Bangladesh–Türkiye bilateral issues with President of the Turkish Red Crescent Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz. The Turkish Red Crescent President called on the State Minister at her office on Monday (22 June, 2026) morning.

Recalling the visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Bangladesh during 4–6 June 2026 and his meetings with the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh during the visit, the State Minister emphasized strengthening cooperation in different areas, including collaboration in regional and international organizations. She highlighted that Bangladesh has been hosting over 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar since 2017. Describing it as a huge challenge for Bangladesh, she emphasized the voluntary, safe, dignified, and sustained repatriation of the Rohingyas at the earliest to Myanmar and urged the sincere support of the international community, including Türkiye, in this regard.

Profoundly lauding Bangladesh’s extraordinary generosity in hosting a large number of Rohingya from Myanmar and the continued humanitarian support provided by Bangladesh over the years, the President of the Turkish Red Crescent highlighted the organization’s humanitarian activities for the Rohingyas in food support, education, primary and emergency medical care, sanitation, and skill development training.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs extended deep appreciation to the visiting Turkish Red Crescent delegation and for the significant humanitarian assistance provided by Türkiye for the Rohingyas.
