France won their first match of the World Cup with a brilliant double from Kylian Mbappe. Didier Deschamps’ men started the tournament with a 3-1 win over Senegal in Group I.
Neither team scored a goal in the first half of the match. However, France took control of the match by increasing their attack after the break. Captain Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for the team in the 66th minute after scoring from a wonderful pass from Michael Oliseh.
The French became more confident after the goal. Bradley Barcola came on as a substitute in the final half of the match and doubled the lead. Then, Ibrahim Mbappe reduced the gap for Senegal by one goal, but could not create any fear of France’s victory.
Mbappe scored his second and his team’s third goal with a superb long-range shot in injury time. His brace secured a 3-1 victory for the 2018 World Cup champions.
With his two goals in this match, Mbappe’s total number of goals at the World Cup stage has reached 14. The Real Madrid star has consistently consolidated his position as one of the most successful scorers at the World Cup.
France secured a crucial three points in their battle to top Group I with a win over Senegal.
