Government appoints Afroza Abbas as Chairman of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha

The government has appointed Afroza Abbas, political advisor to the Prime Minister and wife of BNP leader Mirza Abbas and president of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, as the Chairman of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Contracts and Foreign Employment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday (June 16, 2026).

The notification said that she has been appointed as per Sections 8(1) and 8(2) of the Jatiya Mahila Sangstha Act, 1991, following the request of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.

According to the terms of appointment, she will serve as the Chairman of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha for the next two years from the date of joining.

However, the government can cancel this appointment at any time before the expiry of the term if necessary. Similarly, she can resign at any time through a signed letter addressed to the government.

The notification further mentions that the position as the chairman of the National Women’s Organization will be unpaid.
