Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the foundation stone of the newly formed Upazila and Thana infrastructure in the Matamuhuri area of Cox’s Bazar. After the foundation stone was inaugurated in the Matamuhuri area on Saturday (June 13, 2026) evening, prayers and supplications were held.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, along with ministers and members of parliament, were present at the event.
The formation of Matamuhuri Upazila was finally approved in the 120th meeting of the National Committee on Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) on May 7. This new administrative unit has been formed from the unions in the southern part of Chakaria Upazila.
A total of 7 unions have been included in the new Matamuhuri Upazila. These are Badarkhali, Purba Bora Bheola, Paschim Bora Bheola, Saharbil, Bheola Manikchar, Dhemushia and Kenakhali.
It is worth noting that on May 19 of this year, the gazette was finally published as ‘Matamuhuri’ Upazila, comprising 7 unions of Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.
