Desk Report:

Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that the current government is firmly committed to implementing election promises. Various government programs are being implemented with the aim of improving the welfare and standard of living of the people.

The minister said these things as the chief guest at the family card distribution ceremony among the beneficiaries at the premises of Bir Muktijoddha M. A. Rouf Junior School in Ward No. 6 of Kulonj Union No. 9 of Dirai Upazila of Sunamganj on Tuesday (March 10, 2026).

Khandaker Muktadir said that the family card program has been launched as part of the implementation of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s election promise. The fact that this program has been launched in remote areas of the country just 21 days after the formation of the government proves how determined Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is to implement the election promises.

He said that under the Family Card program, cards will be issued in the names of housewives and a certain amount of financial assistance will be delivered directly to them. Beneficiaries will be able to receive this money through bKash or bank accounts. This will further strengthen the family foundation and increase the economic capacity of women.

The minister further said that women know best about the necessary expenses of the family. Therefore, if the financial assistance of the family is delivered directly to them, it will play a positive role in running the family and will also increase the opportunities for saving.

He said that the government’s development plans have been formulated keeping in mind the overall development of the country and these plans will be implemented within the current term, so that the quality of life of the common people of the country improves.

The Commerce Minister said that the government has undertaken a canal digging program across the country to increase agricultural production. Especially in Sylhet division, agricultural production is relatively low due to lack of irrigation facilities and water drainage problems. He said that if effective initiatives are taken to solve these problems, it will be possible to produce additional crops from the land of this region.

He also expressed hope that through the implementation of these initiatives, rural farming families will get additional income opportunities and the rural economy will be further strengthened.

The program was presided over by Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia. Local MPs Nasir Chowdhury, Kalim Uddin Ahmed, Kaysar Ahmed and Kamrul Islam spoke as special guests at the program.

Earlier, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir handed over family cards to the beneficiaries. Initially, 697 people were listed for family cards in Ward No. 6 of Kulonj Union. However, today, the Social Services Office said that 2,500 taka will be deposited in the accounts of 517 people.
