Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged members of the armed forces to perform their duties with efficiency and professionalism to organize smooth and festive elections.

He made this call at a reception organized at Senakunj on Friday (November 21, 2025) to mark Armed Forces Day 2025.

The Chief Adviser said, “The upcoming national elections will be considered an important chapter in the democratic development of Bangladesh.” I urge the members of the armed forces to perform their duties with skill and professionalism in organizing a smooth and festive election.’

In his speech, the Chief Advisor remembered all the martyrs, war wounded and other heroic freedom fighters of the great Liberation War and also paid tribute to all the martyrs, wounded and participants of the student-people’s uprising in July-August 2024.

He said, the Bangladesh Armed Forces were born on the battlefield in 1971. At that time, on November 21, the army, navy and air force jointly fought against the Pakistani forces, so November 21 is celebrated with pride as a milestone of the Liberation War. However, the struggle of the armed forces in the Liberation War began from the night of March 25. If we had not achieved victory, the death sentence of these heroic soldiers was inevitable, and the lives of all their family members would have become unbearable.

He mentioned that the contribution of the armed forces in the 1971 Liberation War will be written in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh.

Professor Yunus said that the armed forces have always been working by the side of the people to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty and to deal with national disasters, and the armed forces have repaid their trust by standing by the people in the 2024 student uprising and the ongoing country reconstruction. He expressed the hope that this continuity will remain intact with the combination of professional skills and patriotism of the forces, while remaining loyal to the democratic and constitutional leadership.

He said that as a peace-loving nation, we believe in respectful coexistence with all friendly countries. However, we must always be ready and determined to protect the country’s sovereignty from any aggressive external enemy. To this end, efforts are ongoing to modernize our army, navy and air force, improve training and incorporate modern technology in the forces in line with the developed world.

The Principal Advisor further mentioned that in the last 37 years, Bangladeshi peacekeepers have completed 63 missions in 43 countries in the United Nations and are currently participating in 10 missions in different parts of the world. He thanked the armed forces for the success of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers and said that efforts should continue to be made to provide timely training and necessary equipment to Bangladeshi peacekeepers so that they can deal with the situations created in challenging and dangerous regions of the world.
