Desk Report:

Even after the announcement of the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, there has been no significant increase in the prices of daily necessities in the capital’s markets, said State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam.

He made this statement in a response to the media after a surprise visit to the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Monday (June 15, 2026) afternoon.

During the visit, the State Minister spoke to wholesale and retail sellers of the market about the supply and marketing situation. He also took the opinions of the buyers present in the market.

The State Minister said, ‘We tried to know the overall market situation through the surprise visit. The prices of most daily necessities in the market are stable and the supply system also appears to be satisfactory.

He further said that in the people-friendly budget of Tk 9.38 trillion announced by the government, in addition to increasing the allocation for social security and education sectors, tax exemptions have been made on some essential commodities, so that the pressure of inflation on the common people can be reduced.

Shariful Alam said, “The trend of price increase in the market after the announcement of the budget in previous years has not been observed this time. Because this budget has been formulated with the aim of providing relief to the people.”

He said that the normal supply system in the market is maintained due to the coordinated supervision of the Ministry of Commerce, the Department of Consumer Rights Protection, the district administration and the upazila administration.

The State Minister warned, “If there is an attempt to increase the price of any product unnecessarily, necessary action will be taken against those concerned.”

During the inspection, Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Director General (Acting) of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection Sebastian Rema, and senior officials of the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute were present.
