Petronas interested in investing in Bangladesh

Datuk Sazali Hamzah, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Malaysia’s state-owned oil and gas producer Petronas Group, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The courtesy call was held at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur at 2:35 PM Malaysian local time on Monday (June 22, 2026).

During the meeting, various issues related to expanding trade and investment between Bangladesh and Malaysia were discussed. Emphasis was placed on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector in particular.

The meeting discussed in detail the issue of ensuring LNG supply to meet Bangladesh’s growing energy demand and potential investment opportunities for Petronas in Bangladesh. Both sides expressed interest in further strengthening mutual cooperation through energy security, increased investment, and long-term partnerships.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed the investment of international partners in the development of Bangladesh’s energy sector and expansion of infrastructure. On the other hand, Petronas CEO Datuk Sajali Hamza expressed positive interest in Bangladesh’s economic potential and investment opportunities in the energy sector.
