Government wants to ensure a trusting environment for global investors: Mahdi Amin

The government is working to ensure a trusting and competitive environment for global investors, said Mahdi Amin, Advisor to the Prime Minister (State Minister rank) and spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office. He said that one of the goals of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s participation in the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos is to attract more foreign investment, create jobs and further integrate the advancement of sustainable development in Bangladesh with international partnerships.

Mahdi Amin said these things at a press conference organized in Dalian, China on Tuesday (June 23, 2026). He said that after a successful visit to Malaysia, a 21-member delegation led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman has arrived in Dalian. The Chinese government welcomed the Prime Minister with a red carpet reception and the highest state protocol, which is an expression of the country’s importance and respect for Bangladesh.

Mahdi Amin said that even during her short stay in Malaysia, the Prime Minister had fruitful discussions with the country’s Prime Minister, His Majesty the King and top-level leaders on various issues related to Bangladesh’s interests. After coming to China, she has started discussions with world leaders on multilateral and global issues in that vein.

He said that heads of government, policymakers, top businessmen, technology innovators and corporate leaders from different countries of the world have participated in the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos 2026 organized under the theme ‘Innovating at Scale’. This is the first participation of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in a major global conference as the head of government, where he is presenting Bangladesh’s investment potential, economic capacity and development plans to the international community.

He said at the press conference that the Prime Minister had a courtesy call with Alois Zwinggi, President and CEO of the World Economic Forum. There, various issues of increasing investment, job creation and economic progress in Bangladesh were discussed. At this time, the World Economic Forum praised the various development initiatives of the current government of Bangladesh.

Mahdi Amin said that the Prime Minister, speaking at the session titled ‘Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape’, presented the government’s action plan to combat climate change to world leaders. He highlighted the goals of dredging and re-dredging 20,000 kilometers of rivers and canals, improving water management in the Padma and Teesta basins, planting 250 million trees, developing green industries, expanding eco-friendly electric vehicles, and increasing the use of renewable energy to 20 percent in the next five years.

At this time, the Prime Minister called for making climate finance accessible, effective implementation of the disaster fund, technology transfer, and strengthening global cooperation. He said that climate action is not an expense; rather, it is an essential investment for prosperity, stability, and future generations.

At the press conference, Mahdi Amin also said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is attending a state dinner organized at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. There, he will have an opportunity to exchange views with the heads of government of South Korea, Mongolia, Guinea, Montenegro and Kazakhstan, which will play an important role in developing multilateral relations.

He said that after participating in the World Economic Forum’s ‘Annual Meeting of the New Champions’ on Wednesday, the Prime Minister will travel from Dalian to Beijing for a bilateral meeting. Various issues of Bangladesh-China relations, investment, trade and mutual cooperation will be of importance in the meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

Mahdi Amin said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is ensuring Bangladesh’s dignity, respect and strong position in the world court through equality, fairness and balanced foreign policy. His participation in Summer Davos is creating new investment, employment and international cooperation opportunities for the country, as well as highlighting Bangladesh’s capabilities and potential more strongly on the world stage.

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony were also present at the press conference.
