A human chain was held in Rangamati Hill District to demand an end to the negligence of the electricity department and uninterrupted power supply.
On Tuesday (September 2) at 11 am, organized by the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh Rangamati Hill District Committee, in front of the office of the Executive Engineer of Rangamati Electricity Distribution and Marketing, in the city’s Bhedhedi, Rangamati Sadar Upazila, Amar Chakma, Chairman of Bandookbhanga Union Parishad, Shyamal Chowdhury, Vice-President of the Barua Organization Central Committee of the Hill Tracts, and Md. Abdul Mannan Rana, President of the Rangamati District Committee of the Human Rights Establishment and Implementation Organization, delivered speeches expressing solidarity with the human chain demanding uninterrupted power supply.
The keynote speaker was Nirmal Barua Milon, Chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Committee of the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh and central member of the party. The human chain program was organized by Jui Chakma, General Secretary of the Rangamati Hill District Committee of the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, demanding an end to the negligence of the power department and uninterrupted power supply in Rangamati.
The speakers at the human chain said that 100 percent of the electricity generated in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati district goes to the national grid. The people of Rangamati district are victims of discrimination in getting electricity.
On behalf of all the electricity consumers of Rangamati district, we are demanding from the Executive Engineer of the Rangamati Electricity Distribution and Marketing Executive Engineer’s office that from now on, a list of when and when load shedding will be done should be published at least 1 month in advance. The money that linemen take from electricity consumers in the name of tea and snacks while repairing electricity connections should be stopped.
He demanded that the emergency telephone service of the Rangamati Electricity Complaints Center be kept active. He advised the Rangamati Electricity Distribution and Marketing Executive Engineer not to turn off his own mobile phone.
