On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Minister in charge of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Shipping and Railways, Sheikh Rabiul Alam MP, has visited important bus terminals in the capital to ensure safe, smooth and comfortable travel for people.
On Saturday (March 14, 2026), he visited the Fulbaria BRTC bus counter, Gulistan bus stand and Sayedabad bus terminal in the capital. During this time, he directly exchanged views with the passengers on the bus and inquired about whether they were facing any kind of problem or harassment on the way.
While exchanging views with journalists after the inspection, the Road and Bridges Minister said that under the direction of Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is working relentlessly to make this Eid journey safe, smooth and comfortable. He said, “We are working day and night so that people can return home comfortably and celebrate Eid with their families in a joyful atmosphere.” At the same time, the minister added that currently, buses are plying as per the scheduled time and the scheduled fare is being charged. Adequate fuel supply has been ensured for public transport so that the burden of additional fares does not fall on the passengers in any way. The concerned authorities are working round the clock to keep the road management operational so that the passengers can reach their destinations safely on time.
Stating that all the relevant government agencies including the bus owners’ association, labor organizations are conducting field-level supervision activities to ensure a smooth Eid journey, Roads and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that various initiatives have been taken by the ministry to ensure a comfortable journey for the passengers. Iftar arrangements have been made for fasting passengers on a limited scale at various toll plazas on the highway. Nearby hospitals have been kept ready in advance to ensure quick primary treatment if someone suddenly falls ill on the journey. In addition, mobile courts are being run to stop excessive fare collection and passenger harassment, and this activity will continue, the minister said. Potential traffic congestion areas have been identified in advance and additional monitoring measures have been taken there. In places where road construction or renovation work is underway, a certain number of lanes have been opened to keep traffic flowing normally. At this time, the minister said, “We are trying to make this Eid journey beautiful, comfortable and safe by using the maximum capacity of our capabilities. I hope that there will be no disruption in this regard and people will be able to return home without any problems.”
During the inspection, State Minister in charge of the Ministry of Railways and Road Transport and Highways Department Habibur Rashid MP, Chief Coordinator of Bangladesh Nationalist Workers’ Party and Member of Parliament for Pabna-5 constituency Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Department Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque, leaders of the Transport Owners’ Association, Workers’ Association and senior officials at various levels of the government were present.
