Prime Minister Tarique Rahman proposes formation of 10-member joint committee to resolve energy crisis

Parliamentary Leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has proposed the formation of a 10-member joint committee between the government and the opposition in the national interest to find a ‘rational solution’ to the country’s ongoing energy crisis.

He made this proposal on behalf of the government party during a discussion on the energy situation in the parliament session on Thursday afternoon (April 23, 2026). At the same time, he called on the opposition party to name five members.

The Prime Minister said that the proposed committee will be headed by Energy Minister Iqbal Mahmud Tuku. The committee will include an equal number of five members from the government and the opposition.

She said, “The proposals and suggestions of the opposition party will come to the government through this committee. The government will try to implement practical and effective initiatives quickly.”

The Parliament Leader also said that the energy crisis is a global problem, which is affecting different countries. However, the government is ready to hold talks with any party in the interest of the people of the country.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presided over the parliament session at that time.
