Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the immediate relocation of four intercity bus terminals outside the city to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion problem in the capital Dhaka. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting on traffic congestion and traffic management modernization in the capital held at the Public Administration Room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Monday (June 15, 2026) afternoon.

After the meeting, the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary said that to reduce traffic congestion in the capital, the four main intercity bus terminals in Dhaka will be relocated outside the city in phases.
According to the decision, the Fulbaria-Gulistan bus terminal will be relocated to Keraniganj. The Mohakhali bus terminal will first be temporarily shifted to the eastern region and later permanently shifted to an area near Tongi. In addition, the Gabtoli bus terminal will be relocated to Hemayetpur and the Sayedabad-Jatrabari bus terminal will be relocated to Kanchpur.
The Prime Minister also directed to quickly remove the bus counters scattered in different areas of the capital and shift them to designated places. She said that the implementation of this initiative is essential to develop a planned public transport system and make the city’s road management effective.
The meeting discussed in detail various issues related to the modernization of the capital’s traffic management. In particular, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress and benefits of installing artificial intelligence (AI) technology-based cameras in the traffic signaling system. She directed the concerned authorities to further expand modern technology-based traffic management.
It is worth noting that this is the Prime Minister’s third meeting to resolve traffic congestion and improve traffic management in the capital.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib, Member of Parliament Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Home Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, RAJUK Chairman Riazul Islam and senior officials of the concerned ministries and organizations.
