Kazakhstan interested in establishing permanent diplomatic missions in Dhaka-Astana

Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olgas Bektenov paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Summer Davos 2026 held in Dalian, China on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).

During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized the need to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the Prime Ministers of the two countries agreed in principle to establish permanent diplomatic missions in Dhaka and Astana, which is expected to play an important role in enhancing political, economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries in the future.

The discussion also emphasized the need to organize regular high-level meetings to increase political, business and people-to-people contacts. Kazakh Prime Minister Olgas Bektenov expressed optimism about expanding trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting discussed in detail the possibilities of sending skilled manpower from Bangladesh to Kazakhstan, cooperation and investment in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, technology, agribusiness and food processing sectors. Both sides expressed interest in strengthening mutual cooperation in these sectors.

In addition, Prime Minister Olgas Bektenov sought Bangladesh’s support for Kazakhstan’s proposal to establish a specialized agency under the United Nations on water diplomacy. In response, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reiterated Bangladesh’s support for this initiative.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir and Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon were present at the meeting.
