South Korean Ambassador Meets Speaker

Today, Wednesday (June 24, 2026), South Korean Ambassador to Dhaka Kim Ji-jun called on Speaker of the National Assembly of Bangladesh Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram MP at his office.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said that economic and strategic relations between Bangladesh and South Korea have expanded in the past two decades. Parliamentary diplomacy of the two countries is playing an important role in various issues related to trade, investment, labor market, technology and infrastructure development of Bangladesh-South Korea.

The Speaker said that discussions on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) are currently underway between the two countries. Cooperation at the parliamentary level will be further strengthened. He said that Bangladesh needs South Korea’s cooperation in establishing an electronic industry in Bangladesh by providing duty-free import of electronic products in the 2026-27 budget.

South Korean Ambassador Kim Ji-jun requested the Bangladesh government through the Speaker to continue the sincere cooperation provided by the Bangladesh government to Korean companies including Samsung that are doing business in Bangladesh. He sought the country’s cooperation in implementing the ‘National Equipment Identity Register’ (NEIR).

The Speaker expressed his gratitude to the South Korean government for providing continuous cooperation for the welfare of Bangladeshi workers currently working in Korea. At the same time, he expressed his hope to further deepen and expand the existing human resource exchange and inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The Speaker sought South Korea’s cooperation in extracting gas from the Bhola gas field and constructing a urea fertilizer factory.

Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat, and concerned development officials were present during the meeting.
