Prime Minister Tarique Rahman calls on Banglalink to make smartphones and internet affordable for customers

Augie Fabela, Chairman of Banglalink’s parent company VEON, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 9:30 am on Monday (June 29, 2026), discussed various issues including expanding the country’s digital connectivity, ensuring easy access to technology, and ensuring citizen-friendly digital services.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged Banglalink authorities to take initiatives to make smartphones more affordable to the common man. He said that to further accelerate the progress of Digital Bangladesh, the benefits of technology must be brought within the reach of every person in the country.

The Prime Minister also requested to consider bringing the price of internet to a more affordable level. He said that if internet services are ensured at affordable prices, people of all classes and professions in the country will be able to easily enjoy the benefits of digital services and the technology-based economy will be stronger.
