The country’s eminent cultural figure, renowned painter and one of the pioneers of the children’s culture movement, Mustafa Monowar, is no more. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the capital’s Square Hospital on Monday (June 29, 2026) morning. He was 90 years old at the time of his death.
According to family sources, Mustafa Monowar was admitted to the hospital on June 14 with complications of a serious bacterial infection in the lungs and pneumonia. When his blood pressure and oxygen levels in his body dropped alarmingly while undergoing treatment, he was quickly transferred to the ICU on the advice of doctors. After receiving intensive treatment there for about two weeks, he died on Monday morning.
The death of Mustafa Monowar has cast a shadow of deep grief on the country’s cultural arena. Artists, writers, cultural activists and his colleagues have expressed deep grief over the death of this distinguished personality and prayed for the peace of his departed soul.
