Erling Haaland’s last-minute winning goal secured Norway’s place in the last 16 of the World Cup by defeating Ivory Coast 2-1. With this victory, the European country has created new history by winning a match in the knockout stage for the first time in the history of the World Cup. This time, their opponent in the last eight is five-time world champion Brazil.

The first half of the match held in Dallas was relatively slow. Neither team could show much edge in attack. However, six minutes before the break, Norway took the lead through Antonio Nusa’s goal. Thanks to this goal, they ended the first half leading 1-0.

Ivory Coast tried to return to the match after the break. In the continuation of this, Manchester United winger Amad Diallo brought the team back into the match by scoring an equalizer in the 74th minute. After that, it seemed that the match would go to extra time.

But the most important moment of the match came in the 86th minute of regular time. Erling Haaland sent the ball into the net from the very near post from a perfect cross from Patrick Berg. With this winning goal, Norway secured a 2-1 victory. After the goal, the atmosphere throughout the stadium in Dallas was filled with joy from the Norwegian fans.

This was Haaland’s fifth goal in the current World Cup, which further strengthened his position as one of the tournament’s top scorers.

After this historic victory, Norway faces a tougher test. In the quarter-finals of the World Cup, they will face Brazil, one of the tournament’s title contenders.
