Actor Shiva Shanu has won the post of president and actor Joy Chowdhury has been elected as general secretary in the biennial election of Bangladesh Film Artists Association for the 2026-2028 term.
On Friday (July 3, 2026), the Election Commission officially announced the results at around 4:45 am on Saturday (July 4) after the day-long voting at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises.
According to the Election Commission, 480 out of a total of 573 voters exercised their right to vote. After the counting of votes, 17 ballots were declared invalid. After the voting ended, the ballot boxes were sealed and the counting of votes began on Friday evening.
In the announced results, Shiva Shanu was elected as president with 243 votes. His closest rival, fight director and actor Armaan, received 173 votes.
On the other hand, Joy Chowdhury won the post of general secretary with 237 votes. His rival Rumana Islam Mukti got 179 votes.
The newly elected committee will manage the organizational activities of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association for the next two years.
