Millions of mourners gathered in the Grand Masalla complex in the capital Tehran since Saturday morning (July 4, 2026) to attend the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint attack by the United States and Israel.
According to the AFP news agency, the entire complex was filled to the brim with mourners before the official program began. AFP journalists at the scene said that people had gathered in the main courtyard of the huge complex and the surrounding area.
According to eyewitnesses, people from different areas started coming to the Grand Masalla complex from early morning to express their condolences and pay their last respects. The number of people continued to increase as time passed.
Iranian authorities have taken strict security measures in the capital Tehran in view of the funeral ceremony. Special traffic control measures have been imposed on various roads in the capital to control traffic congestion and public gatherings.
It is worth noting that an atmosphere of mourning has prevailed across Iran after the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint attack by the United States and Israel. Millions of people from different parts of the country have gathered in the capital Tehran for his funeral.
